About

Our club has a long history of community involvement since 1863 when The Advertiser reported the formation of a gymnastics club in Tanunda. In its early years, the club had over 50 members and as the Tanunda Turnverein, performed publically at community events.

During the war years, the club was in recess and officially recommenced in 1958. In 1959 the Tanunda Youth Club as it was then known met in the Show Hall on Wednesday and Friday nights, which continue to be our two training nights.

In 1963 Barry Falland began teaching womens gymnastics, and in 1971 the club changed its name to the Barossa Valley Youth Club.

Throughout these years the club was involved in community events, State and National championships, and fundraising to support the growth of the club and the target of its own training premises.

In 1974 the club had raised enough funds to begin building the current recreation centre, which when completed in 1976 was called the Barry Falland Stadium.

The recreation centre has since developed into what we know today as The Rex and the Club currently hires, sets-up, and packs-down for trainings. This is a big committment for coaches and parents each week and the Barossa Gymnastics committee are excited to be taking steps toward developing an independant, purpose designed, state of the art gymnastics facility for the Barossa and surrounds.

We have a long and proud history of gymnastics in the Barossa and it is estimated that the club has coached well over 5000 competative and recreational gymnasts and that 25% of families in the Barossa have been influenced in some way by the Barossa Valley Youth Club.

None of what we offer today would be possible without the enormous committment to the club of our Head Coach, David, who works with inspiring energy in many areas of the Club and is a passionate advocate of the sport and in supporting our athletes and coaches in their goals and development.

Our committee and coaches are all volunteers and work together to provide gymnastics as part of a healthy lifestyle, building life skills including listening skills, self confidence, gross motor development, and influencing life long healthy movement habits.
